How to Get to Gudauri After Landing in Tbilisi or Kutaisi

Arriving in Georgia? Here’s a clear guide on how to reach Gudauri from Tbilisi or Kutaisi by Georgian Bus, marshrutka, or taxi—plus practical tips for a smooth trip.
How to Get to Gudauri After Landing in Tbilisi or Kutaisi

Gudauri is Georgia’s most popular ski resort and sits on the Georgian Military Highway (north of Tbilisi). After you land, you have three practical ways to get there: Georgian Bus, marshrutka (minibus), or taxi/private transfer. Below is a clear, step-by-step guide so you can choose what fits your budget and comfort level.

Quick decision guide

  • Fastest & easiest (door-to-door): Taxi / private transfer
  • Best budget option from Tbilisi: Marshrutka from Didube
  • Best “airport-to-resort” option from Kutaisi: Georgian Bus (direct airport shuttle) (check schedule)

Option 1: Georgian Bus (best from Kutaisi Airport)

When it’s best: You land at Kutaisi International Airport (KUT) and want a straightforward, organized transfer.

Georgian Bus runs scheduled shuttles on routes including Kutaisi Airport ↔ Gudauri / New Gudauri, and also Gudauri ↔ Kutaisi Airport. The timetable is tied to flight arrivals, so it changes depending on the day and season—always check the official timetable before your trip.

Steps (Kutaisi Airport → Gudauri)

  1. Check the Georgian Bus timetable for Kutaisi Airport → Gudauri or Kutaisi Airport → New Gudauri
  2. Book online (recommended in high season).
  3. Find the Georgian Bus pickup at/near the airport (follow Georgian Bus signage or staff instructions).
  4. Arrive early (flight delays happen, schedules can shift).

If your flight doesn’t match the shuttle time

Use the backup plan:

  • Go Kutaisi Airport → Tbilisi (bus/train/transfer), then continue Tbilisi → Gudauri (marshrutka or taxi). Typical road time Kutaisi↔Tbilisi is often around 3–4 hours, depending on traffic and vehicle type.

Option 2: Marshrutka (minibus) from Tbilisi (best budget option)

When it’s best: You’re in Tbilisi (or you landed in Tbilisi) and want the cheapest way to Gudauri.

Where to go: Didube Bus Station

Most Gudauri/Kazbegi marshrutkas leave from Didube Bus Station (next to Didube Metro Station).

Schedule & price (typical)

Popular vans going toward Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) run multiple times daily; Gudauri is a common drop-off on the way. A typical schedule includes departures like 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:30, 15:30, 17:00

  • Fare to Gudauri: about 10 GEL per person (cash to driver). Sometimes drivers charge the full Kazbegi fare (15 GEL) if you take a Kazbegi van.
  • Travel time: around 2.5–3 hours

Where you’ll be dropped off

Many vans drop passengers near Wissol Petrol Station / Smart Supermarket on the highway—tell the driver you’re going to Gudauri.

Important tips (to avoid stress)

  • Arrive 30 minutes early so you don’t miss a seat (drivers may leave early once full).
  • In low season, late departures may be canceled.
  • For safety, avoid riding marshrutkas after dark in mountain conditions.

Option 3: Taxi / Private Transfer (most comfortable)

When it’s best: You have luggage, arrive late, travel with a group, or want door-to-door comfort.

Tbilisi Airport → Gudauri (typical cost guidance)

Taxi pricing can vary and many taxis are not metered, so agree the price before you get in.

Why travelers choose a private transfer

  • Door-to-door (hotel/apartment in Gudauri or New Gudauri)
  • No station changes
  • Best for families, groups, skis/snowboards
  • Safer in bad weather (experienced mountain driver)

Want a trusted taxi contact?

If you want a direct contact to a reliable taxi driver, we can provide it for 200 GEL (one-way service), if you need a bigger car for your luggage or ski bag the price will be higher.
